Think Yourself To A Flatter Stomach

The Placebo Effect of Food Labels

In an interesting experiment, a researcher made a delicious batch of milkshakes.

1 labelled fat free, guilt free, fat free, 140 calorie shake.

The other labelled high calorie, indulgence, decadence, 620 calories.

Now keep in mind: they were exactly the SAME shake, but labelled different.

As people drank the milkshakes, they monitered 'Grehlin' levels.

Grehlin is the hunger hormone. When you have not eaten anything, Grehlin levels rise and tell you it is time to seek out food.

After the rise of grehlin, after you eat, these levels will drop a lot and tell you that you have had enough.

Now back to the milkshake study:

The people who drank the 'high fat, indulgence shake', and remember it was the EXACT same as the other shake - responded as if their bodies had eaten 3 times more!

Since they THOUGHT it was fattening, they actually felt in their bodies that it affected their hunger levels, and therefore their digestion was affected, and their grehlin levels actually dropped, making them think it was time to stop eating and that they were full.

What does this mean?

Well to put it bluntly, this means that the beliefs of your MIND may be able to change your metabolism in your BODY.

So how can you use this information to your benefit?

The next time you are eating healthy food, try to eat with a feeling of 'indulgence', which will in turn actually help you to feel more full and satisfied.

What I love about this simple study is that it reminds us to give more importance to the mental talk that we are having in our minds then we currently do.

Rather than, we are what we eat, perhaps we are what we believe?

With love,
