Foods That Should Be Eaten Regularly For Menopause

Ahh menopause. The time in a woman's life where the body changes yet again. The basics of what they mean is that a woman has hit an age where she can no longer have children, but many other changes go along with this that we are all trying to avoid: low libido, hot flushes, mood swings and more.

What we put into our bodies during this delicate and finely balanced time is more important that just about anything.

Grandmother's Tips for Foods that Should Be Eaten Regularly for Menopause

1. Avoid processed and chemical foods.

Scientists are not starting to find that highly processed foods and colorings in food can be linked to hormone disruption, which basically means that how our hormones should be working is tipping further and further from their natural state. Menopause is already a finely balanced state hormonally, so avoiding food that are processed can dramatically change how you are feeling.

2. Choose organic!

Pesticides are one of the worst culprits when it comes to hormone disruption, so if you only do one thing for yourself during this delicate, it is to buy organic produce.

3. Drink water in abundance. Staying properly hydrated will help with hot flushes and headaches that can come frequently in menopause.

4. Eat broccoli, not only is it high in calcium which is important during this time, but it is also high in certain compounds that help to rid bodies or the 'bad estrogens' that build up over the years.

5. Be careful with wine and coffee. These seem to be the enemy for some women during this time, so tune into your body when you consume any of these and if you find that you are feeling worse after having them, then it might be worth finding alternatives.

6. Try 'sage' as a supplement for hot flushes. I have known many women who after taking this supplement for a couple of week were experiencing far less extreme hot flushes, which in turn helped them to sleep, increased their energy and their mood. You can buy this at most health food stores.

Above all, also know that like everything in life, this too shall pass. There will be a day that comes when you look back at these years with fond memories (haha , maybe not), but like anything in life, it will be gone as quickly as it came.

With love,
