4 Surprising Things that Lead to Weight Loss In regards to weight loss, it is easy to oversimplify with the "energy in/energy out" equation and only take into account the calories we eat versus the calories we burn. According to new evidence from lifestyle research, these are some crucial factor to evaluate in your own life and see how you weigh in. 1. Sleep Studies show that people who slept less than 7-8 hours in a night were more likely to weigh more. In fact, the chance of having weight difficulties is 3-4 times higher for those of us who do not sleep well. What can you do: Turn OFF the TV and computer at least an hour before bed, and do something that is less stimulating, like playing an instrument, writing in a journal, or doing yoga. 2. Digestion You would have to be living on the moon if you have not heard of probiotics, which are healthy bacteria that we WANT to live in our guts. It turns out that people who have less of these crucial helpers are more likely to also weigh more. What you can do: Include organic plain probiotic yogurt daily in your diet, or look for a great supplement if yogurt does not agree with you. Also eat plenty of blueberries and apples which are good food for these little friendly bacteria. 3. Chemicals There is evidence coming to light that there are certain chemicals in the food that we buy that is processed that can lead to weight gain. So those who eat more of these types of foods are more likely to have a weight problem. What can you do: Avoid pesticides, avoid plastic wrapped food and water bottles and choose glass or stainless steel, and choose natural home care products like cleaning with vinegar rather than toxic cleaners. 4. Stress Okay, so this one is not so new, but nevertheless an important reminder for us to learn how to deal with it. The more stress in our lives, the greater the weight that many of us will gain for various reason. What can you do: Find some coping mechanism. Some healthy ones.
