Toffee Squares With Toasted Pecans Recipe

A crunchy and sweet dessert square recipe topped with pecans.

Ingredients


Makes (1) 9x13 inch baking dish

Bottom layer
1 cup butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups all purpose flour

Topping
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups pecans, chopped
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

Toffee Squares

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Grease 9x13 inch baking dish.

Bottom Layer

Place the butter, brown sugar into a mixing bowl and use an electric mixer at medium speed to beat until light and fluffy. Mix in salt.

Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until fully incorporated after each addition.

Continue mixing until dough begins to come together.

Press dough into baking dish. Prick the dough in several places

with a fork.

Place into the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove to a cooling rack and let cool.

Reduce oven to 325°F.

Topping

Place butter, brown sugar, honey, granulated sugar, and heavy cream into a saucepan and heat over high heat.

Bring to a boil, stirring constantly for about 1 minute, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon.

Remove pan from heat; stir in salt, nuts and vanilla.

Pour onto the crust.

Place into the 325°F. oven and bake 15 to 20 minutes. until filling bubbles,

Remove from oven and transfer it to wire rack to cool completely.

Cut with a sharp knife cut into 1 by 3 inch bars.

Store in an airtight container.
