Ingredients

6 slices bacon
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup banana pepper, seeded & chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
olive oil for greasing
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
6 slices cheddar cheese
6 hamburger buns, cut in half & toasted
lettuce & tomatoes & condiments of your choice

(Serves 6)

Directions

In a medium skillet set over medium-high heat, cook bacon until crisp.

Once cooked, set aside on a plate lined with paper towel to drain.

Combine the beef, banana peppers and cumin in a large mixing bowl.

Using clean hands, shape the beef into 6 patties, about 1-inch thick. Set in the refrigerator to chill for 15 minutes before grilling.

Grease grill with olive oil and heat to approximately 350ºF.

Once heated, gently place the patties on the hot grill.

Grill for 10 minutes on the first side, then carefully flip patties over.

Brush burgers with BBQ sauce.

Grill for another 10-12 minutes, or until patties are cooked to desired doneness.

Place a cheese slice on each patty during the last minute of grilling.

Place the cut buns on the top rack to toast lightly.

Once burgers are cooked and cheese is melted, remove patties from the grill.

Serve on the toasted buns with lettuce, tomatoes and your favourite condiments.

Top each burger with a slice of bacon.

Serve immediately.
