Simple Apple Pie Recipe

This simple apple pie will be a treat for any guest who happens to be in your kitchen.

Ingredients

Crust
1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup butter
2 cups flour
1/3 cup boiling water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
(Makes two 9 inch crusts)

Filling
7 apples (granny smith, spartan)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 Tablespoons butter
3/4 cup sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 400F.

Crust

In a large bowl mix shortening, butter and flour and blend together to create a coarse meal.

Add boiling water, salt and baking powder and mix well.

Divide into 2 balls.

Place each balls into its own sandwich of 2 layers of wax paper that are large squares, and big enough to roll out each piece into 10 inch rounds.

Transfer one round into a 9 inch pie plate careful not to stretch.

Filling

Wash, peel, core and slice the apples.

Mix apples with cinnamon and sugar.

Transfer the filling into the pastry lined pie pan and dab with butter.

Transfer the crust top and pinch the edges together.

Cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

Bake at 400F for 10 minutes.

Reduce temperature to 350° and continue baking 45 minutes or until golden crust.

If the crust browns too quickly, tent it with aluminum foil.
