Chili Dogs With Sauerkraut Recipe

A Hearty recipe for chili dogs with sauerkraut. This is a family favorite barbecue meal.

Ingredients

12 large hot dogs
12 hot dog buns
1 small jar sauerkraut + 1 Tablespoon butter
Chili
1 lb. ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 medium bell pepper, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 cup beef stock
1/2 teaspoon chile pepper
1 small can crushed tomatoes

Directions

Cook the ground beef, onion, garlic and red pepper in large saucepan on the stovetop, stirring occasionally, until beef is browned and vegetables are tender.

Stir in stock, chile pepper and crushed tomatoes.

Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes.

Open the sauerkraut, rinse and drain the juice from the can. Put 1 tablespoon of butter int a small pot, add the sauerkraut and warm it up.

Cook the hot dogs until browned and heated through. If you are not barbecuing, you can heat them in a frying pan on the stove top.

If desired, toast the hot dog buns.

Top buns with a hot dog, chili and sauerkraut to serve.
